7 tips to improve energy efficiency in the home

The expenditure of energy in the home supposes a good disbursement of money, and also a non-negligible contribution to the pollution of the planet.
What to do? Simply, what we can. Luckily, if we add small actions is a lot, and in many occasions it is enough to know simple tricks as effective to make a difference.
At other times, it must be recognized, energy efficiency escapes our hands. Well for lack of budget to make reforms or for a building architecture that makes it too difficult, if not impossible.
Tips and tricks to save energy
Even so, taking into account a series of practical tips, we will be able to improve energy efficiency. If not everything we wanted, yes in part. Enough to reduce the bill of light and, with it, make an eco-friendly gesture. In this post we give you tips to make a greener use of electric power in the home. It will also mean an economic saving that will warm your pockets.

1. Attentive to the windows

The use we make of windows translates into greater or lesser energetic efficiency. They are as simple gestures as climbing up blinds, running or drawing curtains, take advantage of sunlight to work, let the sun warm the room during the day or prevent the cold from sneaking in during the night …
Logically, we must also control that they are well closed and do not leave them open when it is cold beyond what is necessary to ventilate the house. Ten to fifteen minutes a day will be enough to renew the air of a room.
Isolating windows is synonymous with energy savings, since we avoid leaks. Both summer and winter will be very effective to control and maintain the temperature of our home.
The double glazing in windows, for example, helps to reduce the cost of heating by half, a saving that we could increase by taking complementary measures.

2. Attention with the doors

As with windows, doors should insulate when closed. The best solution is a new door or window that has good insulation already standard to reduce the loss of heat and cold through the slits.
So, doors can help us save energy. Together with the windows, they are key to achieving a good general isolation. In fact, unless we have good insulation, opening and closing them as needed will be of little use.
If our doors are an air strainer, the sealing tapes are a simple way to insulate. Between doors and windows you can lose between 25 and 30 percent of heat and cold.

3. Good insulation

Cutting energy consumption goes beyond doors and windows. Good insulation is essential to optimize the performance of the air conditioners.
Ideally, a house should also have good insulation on ceilings, walls and floors. That yes, to achieve it we have to do works or take into account its importance when planning its construction.
In the market there are endless insulating materials for roofs, roofs, walls and partitions, with different levels of resistance. Keep in mind that the same type of insulation has a different level of protection at the thermal and acoustic level.
Insufficient insulation in ceilings, walls and floors can mean the loss of 30 percent of the energy. A leak that also affects your pocket in the same proportion.

4. Avoid phantom consumption

The vampire or ghost consumption of the devices that continue to use light even when they are turned off (not turned off) is also a waste that does not make any sense.
To get an idea, in standby mode the devices consume around 10 or 15 percent of what they spend in normal conditions. Both those who have a pilot and those who do not. For example, washing machines, mobile phone chargers, DVD or Blu-ray players, televisions …
To avoid it means to have the precaution of unplugging them when they are not being used, without more, or to use a power strip with a switch to do it more comfortably.

5. Prioritize the energy label

When buying a new appliance pay attention to the energy label. Let us accustom ourselves to give it due importance. Beyond the price, promotions or models, classes A and A with bonuses (A +, A ++ and A +++) should be a priority when making a decision.
If we have an old appliance, we could even go out and change it. Especially when they are the most consumed, such as refrigerators, freezers and washing machines.

6. Do not abuse hot water

Hot water does not just raise the thermometer. It also does it with the electricity bill. Reducing the shower, bath and washing machine water a few degrees, say, will not be a drama and we will achieve our goal.
Actually, it’s a matter of attitude. We just have to put it into practice, make it a habit and finish

7. If it seduces us, let us dare

Isolation is key to being efficient, we have already pointed it out. But we have left in the inkwell the option of green covers, a very fun, decorative and ecological way of isolating.
Not everyone has a roof waiting to receive visits from plants, time, patience and the audacity to do so. Doing so, however, could be quite an experience.
Launching means preparing the roof with the necessary insulation, and then the green carpet will multiply that insulating effect. Done with the proper advice, without doubt, is one of the most eco-friendly and exciting ways to bet on energy efficiency.
